Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – Jalisco’s athletes played a decisive role as Mexico achieved its best performance in the history of the Central American and Caribbean Games, which concluded August 8 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The 25th edition of the regional competition brought together athletes from across the region for 20 days of competition from July 24 through August 8. For Jalisco, the Games produced a record medal haul and an encouraging start to the Olympic cycle leading to Los Angeles 2028.
The state’s delegation finished with 44 gold, 32 silver and 34 bronze medals, totaling 110 medals. The 44 gold medals surpassed Jalisco’s previous totals of 37 at both Barranquilla 2018 and San Salvador 2023.
Jalisco was the top contributing state to Mexico’s overall medal count, providing 27% of the country’s 407 medals. Its 44 gold medals also represented 26.3% of Mexico’s 167 gold medals.
Mexico’s performance secured the overall championship at the Games for the third consecutive time. The national delegation’s 167 gold medals and 407 total medals established new records for the country at the Central American and Caribbean Games.
Jalisco’s contribution stood out compared with other leading states. The State of Mexico finished with 26 gold, 17 silver and 12 bronze medals, while Nuevo León earned 24 gold, 19 silver and 24 bronze.
The depth of Jalisco’s performance was also reflected in the number of athletes who reached the podium. Of the 116 athletes representing the state, 94 won at least one medal, meaning 81 percent of the delegation returned home with a podium finish.
Several athletes delivered particularly strong individual performances. Diego Villalobos led the medal effort in artistic swimming with four gold and three silver medals. Miriam Rodríguez in badminton, Giselle Torres in rhythmic gymnastics, Pamela Toscano in artistic swimming and Alexandra Herrera in racquetball each added three gold medals to Jalisco’s total.
The Games also provided an important step toward future international competition. Jalisco athletes Jorge Orozco and Alejandra Ramírez secured their nominal places for the Lima 2027 Pan American Games in shooting sports.
Beyond the medal totals, the results in Santo Domingo provide an early measure of the state’s strength as Mexico begins the Olympic cycle toward Los Angeles 2028. With athletes across multiple disciplines reaching the podium, Jalisco once again demonstrated its ability to make a significant contribution to Mexico’s success on the international sporting stage.
