Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The Jalisco Ministry of Health has included COVID-19 shots within the state’s 2025–2026 winter immunization campaign, complementing the previously announced Flu Vaccination Drive. More than 370,000 updated doses from Moderna and Pfizer will be distributed across the state free of charge.
Jalisco Health Secretary Héctor Raúl Pérez Gómez explained that the new vaccines have been adapted to protect against the most recent Omicron subvariants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, providing stronger and longer-lasting immunity. “These updated vaccines offer better protection against the variants circulating this year,” he said.
Moderna’s formula will be administered to individuals six months and older who have comorbidities, while Pfizer’s vaccine will be available to those aged 12 and older, as well as the general population. Vaccination is especially encouraged for seniors, pregnant women, healthcare personnel, and people with chronic or degenerative illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, kidney disease, cancer, and heart conditions.
In addition to flu shots and COVID-19 doses, the campaign will reinforce protection against other preventable diseases. Measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines will be available for children and adults up to 49 years old, and the 13-valent pneumococcal vaccine will be offered to young children, older adults, and individuals with chronic respiratory or immune conditions. A tuberculosis-preventive vaccine is also expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
So far this year, Jalisco has registered 157 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 18 cases of influenza during the interseasonal period. Health officials emphasize that vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent severe illness and hospitalization during the colder months.
A crucial logistical benefit for residents is the ability to receive both the updated COVID-19 vaccine and the seasonal influenza vaccine during the same visit. This convenient approach eliminates the need for two separate appointments, allowing people to achieve protection from both viruses efficiently. Health authorities encourage this simultaneous administration as a way to maximize community immunity and streamline the process, ensuring all eligible individuals can be fully protected without delay.
Vaccines are available Monday through Friday mornings at all local health centers, including the Puerto Vallarta Centro de Salud El Centro, the Centro de Salud Remance, Naval Hospital, Regional Hospital, and facilities in municipal capitals such as Mascota and Tomatlán.
All vaccines are free, and no appointment is needed. Residents are advised to bring official identification, a national health card (if applicable), and wear clothing that allows easy access to the upper arm when visiting their nearest health center.
