Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The latest news from PuRR Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter located just north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.
SHELTER UPDATE
The shelter population is at the highest it’s been since we started keeping records! It’s difficult to count the number of cats that live in the yard, so José takes photos at feeding time and uses an application that counts them. This week he counted 225 adults at dinner time. With another 70 cats and kittens in the clinic and casitas and 6 babies in foster, that’s a total of 301 that we are currently caring for. PLUS we had another two puppies abandoned at the shelter last week.
FEATURED FELINE: PIRATE

Pirate is about 10 months old with one big beautiful eye and is about the sweetest cat you will ever meet! He was found wandering the streets of Vallarta in March and we agreed to give him a home at PuRR. Dr. Alberto did the surgery to clean up the bad eye and he was moved into Linda’s Casita where he currently resides with other kitties around the same age. But what he REALLY wants is a loving Forever Home! If you live in the Vallarta area and would like to meet Pirate, send Linda a message at adopt(at)purrproject.com or contact us on Facebook.
VOLUNTEERS FOR THURSDAYS
We really need volunteers… but what we need most is some volunteers with transportation! Currently, we only have one person who is delivering the weekly supplies and also providing a ride for up to four volunteers. We meet at her house in the Marina on Thursday mornings at 10:15 and head to the shelter to do chores and assist Dra. Eva. You can clean litter boxes or bathe new kittens or just spend time socializing the babies or giving some love to the garden cats. Either way, you will leave feeling good about the day! The shelter is very remote with no public transportation nearby so a car is a necessity. If you are interested, please contact Linda at info(at)purrproject.com for more information.
GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!

Last month we were very happy to be able to offer visits to the shelter for some long-time PuRR supporters! Lee and Heidi Mathias were only in town for a few hours on a cruise ship stop but a shelter visit was on top of their list. In the past, Lee has provided funds to purchase new washers & dryers, to build out first rain shelter and feeding station and also to buy and install the new septic system. Richard Robertson and Tara have also been frequent donors who love visiting the shelter when they visit from Montreal. Both couples have been unable to travel or visit us the past two years because of the pandemic so making sure they got our to the ranch was a priority for us.
We are grateful for donations last month from both Lee and Richard as well as Gary Phillips, Sharon & Ken Rose, Joanne Bryla, Pat & Sandy Glenn, Shelly Mueller, Steven John, Jerry Petrizzo, Tim Oleno, Jon Melnick, Larry Sherwood, Jalene Taylor, Heidi Benedict, Elizabeth Fuerhern, Janice North, Robert Weed and Robert Butler.
The PuRR Shelter is supported solely by private donations. You can check our website for ideas on how to give your support, including Virtual Adoptions, PayPal donation or personal check! With our 501 (c)(3) Non-Profit Status, tax exempt receipts for US Dollar donations deposited in the US are available.
If you live in Puerto Vallarta and would prefer to make a cash peso donation, contact our Shelter Administrator at donate(at)purrproject.com.
