Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Lady Zen, an internationally known, award-winning lyric fusion poet and jazz vocalist, has been thrilling audiences for years, most recently in San Miguel de Allende.
As both a poet and a singer, Lady Zen possesses the beautiful voice of a mezzo-soprano and the captivating presence of a brilliant storyteller. Lady Zen is one of the best singers you may never have heard of. With operatic training and a natural feel for jazz, country music and the fusion of all three, she has been called a “shockingly good” singer.

By the age of 12 she was a master showman and won many competitions. Her life story is incredible and was turned into a feature-length motion picture.
Born Alzenira Quezada in Brazil, she was adopted by American missionaries. After being given a new name by her adopted family, she eventually went back to her own Brazilian name, ‘Zen’.
Her Christian Missionary parents kicked their adopted daughter out of the house when she came out as gay. “My parents tried to pray the gay demon out of me,” said Lady Zen. This heartbreaking rejection gave her an opportunity to grow stronger, and provided plenty of material for the film about this multi-talented woman who found herself and is unafraid to share who she is with her audiences.
