Puerto Vallarta will welcome players and fans for the Vallarta Open Padel Tournament, a charity sporting event scheduled for March 26 through 29. The competition will bring together athletes in multiple divisions while raising funds to support the social programs of DIF Puerto Vallarta, which assists vulnerable families across the municipality.
Padel, a fast-growing racket sport, blends elements of tennis and squash and is known for its dynamic, social style of play. The sport was invented in 1969 in Mexico by Enrique Corcuera before gaining strong popularity in Spain and Argentina. In recent years, it has expanded rapidly across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Matches are typically played in doubles on an enclosed court about one-third the size of a tennis court. Glass and mesh walls surround the court and are used strategically during play, allowing the ball to rebound and remain in action. This feature often leads to longer rallies and exciting exchanges between players.
Padel is known for being easy to learn, low-impact, and highly social, which makes it appealing to beginners as well as experienced athletes. Its mix of technique, strategy, and teamwork creates a perfect balance between fun and competition.
The Vallarta Open will bring together local and visiting players in several men’s and women’s divisions, encouraging friendly competition and promoting the sport’s growing presence in the Banderas Bay region. The tournament will offer a prize pool exceeding 80,000 pesos, with awards distributed across men’s 2nd through 6th divisions and women’s 4th and 5th divisions.
The entry fee is 1,300 pesos per player, with proceeds directly supporting programs led by DIF Vallarta that assist children, seniors, and families facing difficult circumstances.
The event is organized through a collaboration between the Pádel 233 venue, the municipal government, and DIF Vallarta. Organizers invite the local sports community and the public to take part in an event that combines competition with a meaningful cause.
Players interested in participating can request additional information or register by calling 331-348-7724 or 322-135-2000.
