Marigalante II Nears Puerto Vallarta, Reviving Pirate Tours

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The Marigalante II is on its final stretch toward Puerto Vallarta, marking a welcome return of a beloved nautical attraction. On Sunday, December 7, the replica galleon reached the entrance to the Panama Canal in Puerto Colón, preparing to cross from the Atlantic to the Pacific before continuing its journey to Banderas Bay. If weather conditions remain favorable, the ship could arrive within two weeks.

Upon arrival, the Marigalante II will carry forward the legacy of its well-known predecessor, the Marigalante, which entertained visitors for years with memorable morning and evening boat tours. Although the original ship now lies at the bottom of the bay, the new galleon revives its essence and the historical charm it represented.

Designed in the style of the Santa María attributed to Juan de la Cosa, the Marigalante II honors tradition while offering major upgrades. Its reinforced construction combines a steel core with cedar and ebony finishes for long-lasting strength. With three tall masts and expansive sails, the ship is built to once again glide across Banderas Bay with a commanding presence.

The Marigalante II aims to revive the pirate-themed entertainment that once thrilled passengers on board and spectators along the Malecón, where nightly shows and fireworks made its sister ship a memorable attraction.

The operating company hopes to restart service before the end-of-year celebrations, depending on the ship’s timely arrival. Port authorities are already coordinating logistics to support the reception and ensure a smooth restart of activities.

Business owners and tourism providers see the galleon’s return as a welcome addition for winter visitors, boosting the local economy and enhancing the city’s mix of maritime, cultural, and family-friendly entertainment.

The company recommends keeping an eye on its social media channels for updates, including opening dates and reservation details. As it advances across the Pacific, the Marigalante II signals a new chapter for nautical tourism in Puerto Vallarta.
