Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The Marigalante II reached Mexican waters yesterday afternoon, a meaningful step in its long journey to Puerto Vallarta. After leaving Cancun, the ship crossed the Caribbean, passed through the Panama Canal, and continued north along the Pacific coast of Central America. Entering waters off Chiapas marks the beginning of the final stretch home.
As the vessel continues its northward trek, it is scheduled to navigate the Gulf of Tehuantepec. While this region is known for powerful seasonal winds, the crew remains optimistic that these conditions will provide a favorable push toward their destination. Every nautical mile is being covered under strict safety protocols, ensuring the ship and its crew of eight skilled mariners arrive in peak condition.
Current estimates place the Marigalante II in Puerto Vallarta between December 21 and 22, a timing that promises to heighten the city’s holiday spirit. The arrival carries deep emotional significance, as the ship is the direct successor to the original Marigalante, a longtime favorite that became part of local history after sinking off Camarones Beach.
Plans for the arrival include a ceremonial sail-in along the coast. The Marigalante II will pause near Los Arcos del Malecón before making a slow pass along the waterfront, giving residents and visitors a chance to watch from shore. The procession will end near the resting place of the original ship, where a brief tribute will recognize the legacy behind the Marigalante name.
Following the ceremony, the vessel will dock at the maritime terminal and be welcomed with live mariachi music. This celebration marks the transition of the Marigalante II from a traveler to a local fixture. Designed to accommodate 252 passengers, the ship is outfitted to provide high-seas adventures that blend history with modern hospitality.
In the days following the landing, city officials plan to announce specific dates for free public tours. These visits will allow the community to step aboard and meet the crew before the ship begins full operations.
By the final week of the year, the Marigalante II is scheduled to be in service, offering a new way to experience Banderas Bay while keeping a well-known local story alive.
