Mayor Munguía Delivers Water Tanks to Puerto Vallarta Families

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – More than 2,000 residents across Puerto Vallarta are celebrating a significant boost to their household water supply, thanks to the launch of the Tinacos PURA (PURA Water Tanks) program by the municipal water agency, SEAPAL. This new initiative provides free water storage units, ensuring greater stability for families, particularly during unexpected service interruptions.

The first delivery event was held with great enthusiasm at the La Lija Cultural Center, following the recent inauguration of the new Vertical Galleries water infrastructure. Mayor Luis Munguía and SEAPAL Vallarta General Director Carlos Alberto Ruiz led the distribution, which provided storage tanks to families in vulnerable situations across multiple neighborhoods.

Families from the upper reaches of El Pitillal, the Ramblases area, Sendero de Luna, and other northern parts of the municipality were among the first to receive this valuable support. These 1,100-liter capacity units are a direct way to maintain water access right in their homes.

Mayor Munguía highlighted that the Tinacos PURA program is an important piece of a larger puzzle. This social effort complements the city’s investments in infrastructure, such as the improvements near the Radial Well, which are designed to stabilize and strengthen the overall drinking water system. The administration is focused on both large-scale system upgrades and direct aid to families most in need.

General Director Ruiz explained the critical role these tanks will play. He noted that recent infrastructure projects will incorporate an additional 120 liters of water per second into the system, which will help reduce service interruptions. However, the Tinacos PURA initiative ensures that families have a reliable reserve, especially during contingencies like power outages caused by storms. He clarified that when the electricity fails, wells can take between four and six hours to fully reactivate, and the stored water will keep families comfortable during that period.

Despite a light rain, the atmosphere at the delivery event was uplifting, with the grounds filled with smiles and applause as families eagerly arrived to collect their tanks. The event successfully concluded with the logistics of loading the large units, which are now on their way to provide reliable water security in the homes of the beneficiaries.
