Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Mexicana de Aviación is making a triumphant return to Puerto Vallarta, beginning in April 2025. The announcement was made on January 23 during President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s morning press conference, signaling the airline’s continued growth despite recent challenges.
Leobardo Ávila Bojórquez, the airline’s director, highlighted Mexicana’s resilience, stating, “We are aware that we face challenges, but we are turning them into opportunities.”
The announcement comes after the earlier suspension of eight routes, including Puerto Vallarta, served by TAR aircraft. Ávila Bojórquez clarified that route adjustments are common in the airline industry and outlined Mexicana’s ambitious plans for 2025, which include serving 14 destinations with an expanded fleet.
Initially, Mexicana will operate flights to Tulum, Tijuana, Mérida, San José del Cabo, Mazatlán, and Chetumal using two Boeing 737s. By April, Puerto Vallarta and Monterrey will join the list of destinations, further enhancing connectivity for travelers.
The airline’s fleet will grow throughout 2025 with the integration of 5 Embraer aircraft from Brazil. This expansion will support routes to cities such as Guadalajara, Campeche, Ixtepec, Palenque, and Ciudad Victoria. By December, all routes will be operated with Embraer aircraft.
Operating out of Felipe Ángeles International Airport as its main base, Mexicana projects more than 500,000 passengers and 83 connections during the first half of the year, underscoring its role in bolstering national connectivity.
Mexicana de Aviación, which was revived during the last federal administration after ceasing operations in 2010, continues to grow and adapt, offering travelers new opportunities to explore Mexico’s diverse destinations.
