Mexico City – Mexicana de Aviación, the resurrected Mexican airline, has officially launched its website, and has announced a lineup of destinations, including Puerto Vallarta. The airline’s main operating hub will be the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) in Mexico City, with operations set to commence on December 1st.
According to the company’s website, Mexicana will offer flights to a variety of beach vacation destinations, including Acapulco, Cancún, Cozumel, Huatulco, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, La Paz, Los Cabos, Mazatlán, and Puerto Vallarta. For those seeking adventure, they will also serve Chetumal, Hermosillo, Mérida, and Oaxaca. Business travelers can choose from destinations like Bajío, Campeche, Tijuana, Ciudad Juárez, Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Villahermosa in Tabasco.
Mexicana promises prices that are 15-20% cheaper than the average commercial airlines, along with complimentary checked baggage and seat selection. The state-owned airline will kickstart its operations with a fleet of ten B-737-800 aircraft, each capable of carrying 180 passengers.
To celebrate its relaunch, Mexicana de Aviación is offering special promotional fares. The inaugural flight from Puerto Vallarta to AIFA on December 2nd is priced at 679 pesos, inclusive of all taxes, with complimentary seat selection and checked baggage of up to 15 kilograms. The return flight from AIFA to Puerto Vallarta is similarly priced at 629 pesos, all-inclusive. These introductory fares will be available throughout December, with Mexicana de Aviación committed to offering travelers a budget-friendly option for their flights.
In a competitive move, Viva Aerobús has also announced plans to expand its services from AIFA. Starting in April 2024, they will offer direct flights to Puerto Vallarta and other destinations. These 17 new routes are designed to meet the growing demand for air travel in the Mexico City Metropolitan Area, providing new aircraft, direct flights, and budget-friendly fares. Juan Carlos Zuazua, the airline’s director, stated, “We aim to boost tourism, competitiveness, and economic growth in our country.”
The new Viva Aerobús routes will connect the AIFA airport to cities like Ciudad Juárez, Ciudad Obregón, Chetumal, Chihuahua, Durango, Guadalajara, Huatulco, Mérida, Nuevo Laredo, Puerto Vallarta, Reynosa, Los Cabos, Tampico, Tulum, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Veracruz, and Villahermosa. They will also increase the frequency of services to the 10 destinations they currently operate.
