Mexico’s tourism industry is experiencing impressive growth in 2025, with 39.4 million international visitors arriving between January and May. This marks a 14.2% increase over the same period in 2024 and reflects the country’s strong appeal as a top global travel destination.
May alone saw 7.9 million international arrivals, an 18% rise over last year. Among them, 3.75 million stayed overnight, while 4.19 million enjoyed day trips. These numbers reflect Mexico’s ability to attract a wide variety of travelers drawn to its rich culture, stunning landscapes, and world-famous cuisine.
International air arrivals reached 10.2 million from January to May, while cruise tourism surged with 5 million passengers – up 10% from last year and nearly 20% above pre-pandemic levels. Popular ports such as Cozumel, Cabo San Lucas, and Puerto Vallarta are once again thriving, contributing to a 48.4% rise in cruise revenue since 2019.
Spending has also increased significantly. In May, air travelers spent an average of $1,300.50 USD each, up 6.8% from 2024 and 24.7% from 2019. Total international visitor spending reached $14.6 billion USD during the first five months of the year, representing a 5.2% increase from 2024 and a striking 44.4% jump compared to pre-pandemic figures.
The United States and Canada remain the top source markets. U.S. visitors made up 63% of international arrivals, with a 5% increase over last year. Canadian tourism saw even stronger growth, up 13%, now accounting for nearly one-fifth of total foreign arrivals. Both nations are crucial to Mexico’s tourism boom, contributing significantly to both visitor numbers and revenue.
Looking ahead, the outlook remains strong. Air capacity between Mexico and the U.S. has expanded by 5.5%, with 4.6 million airline seats available in July alone. With a wide range of offerings – from pristine beaches and ancient ruins to eco-resorts and surf towns – Mexico is well-positioned to continue its upward trend through the peak summer season and beyond.
Thanks to its continued investments in infrastructure and connectivity, Mexico is not just recovering – it’s reaching new heights as a world-leading travel destination.
