Mexico’s cruise tourism industry experienced impressive growth in the first half of 2025, welcoming 5.6 million passengers – a notable 8.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The rise highlights the country’s growing appeal as a leading cruise destination.
This surge was matched by a 7.8% jump in cruise ship arrivals, with 1,639 vessels docking at ports across the country, according to figures from the Mexican Navy. The boost reflects ongoing investments in port infrastructure and successful coordination with international cruise lines.
Cozumel and Mahahual in Quintana Roo remained the busiest ports, thanks to their prime locations and well-developed tourism offerings. On the Pacific Coast, Ensenada and Puerto Vallarta also saw consistent traffic, underscoring the importance of both coastlines in supporting this sector.
Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora credited the positive trend to government-led improvements in the National Port System. Backed by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, these upgrades aim to modernize port facilities and enhance services, ensuring local communities benefit from increased tourism.
“These figures confirm that Mexico continues to consolidate its position as one of the world’s most attractive cruise destinations,” Rodríguez said, noting the importance of collaboration between federal, state, and local authorities.
Cruise tourism is a vital source of income for coastal cities. Passengers support local businesses by spending on food, tours, transportation, and souvenirs. The growing demand is helping to expand services and create jobs in hospitality, retail, and transportation sectors.
With continued investments and strong partnerships with the cruise industry, officials expect growth to carry through the rest of the year. As global travel rebounds, Mexico remains firmly positioned as a top destination for cruise travelers in the Americas.
