Munguía Leads Vallarta’s Recovery Efforts After Blockades

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, México – During a municipal security cabinet meeting held Monday morning, Luis Munguía outlined the actions underway to address the impacts of Sunday’s blockades and restore normal conditions in Puerto Vallarta.

The mayor explained that the incidents stemmed from a federal operation carried out in Tapalpa, which led to road blockages in several municipalities, including Puerto Vallarta, through the burning of vehicles. In response, the Municipal Government immediately activated emergency measures focused on public safety, damage control, and the protection of both residents and tourism activity.

Efforts to clear the city’s thoroughfares began on Sunday evening. Preliminary estimates suggest that over 200 units, including buses and private cars, were affected by the unrest. Clearing avenues and restoring traffic flow remains a top priority to allow residents to gradually resume daily activities. As a sign of this progress, public transportation is also being restored in stages.

The municipal government is working closely with state and federal agencies to maintain basic services and secure the delivery of essential supplies. General Secretary José Juan Velázquez Hernández noted that these partnerships are vital for maintaining the city’s operational stability.

Coordinated Safety Measures

The Department of Civil Protection and Firefighters, led by Director Misael López Muro, is currently focused on three primary areas:

  • Debris Removal: Completing the extraction of all damaged vehicles from public roads.
  • Business Support: Providing necessary attention and safety assessments for local businesses affected by the unrest.
  • Police Presence: Reinforcing patrols at strategic locations to provide a visible sense of security for residents and visitors.

Mayor Munguía expressed confidence in the city’s resilience, stating that his administration will continue to work tirelessly to return the community to its usual rhythm. He encouraged citizens to remain informed through official government channels and to follow all safety recommendations while waiting for the State of Jalisco to officially lift the “code red” status.
