Mexico City is making motorsports history as it hosts the first-ever international, points-paying NASCAR Cup Series race of the modern era. The high-speed action unfolds June 13–15, 2025, at the legendary Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, setting the stage for an unforgettable weekend of racing excitement.
This exciting event will include not only the NASCAR Cup Series but also the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the NASCAR Mexico Series, uniting top-tier talent from across North America. It’s a major step in NASCAR’s ongoing efforts to expand globally, and the choice of venue couldn’t be more fitting.
Built in 1959 and renovated in 2015, the 4.3-kilometer circuit features 17 challenging turns and sits over 2,200 meters above sea level. Known for hosting the Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix, the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez has earned its place among the world’s premier race tracks.
“This is a historic moment for our sport,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR Senior Vice President of Racing Strategy and Development. “Racing at the iconic Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez allows us to continue our global growth in a meaningful and exciting way.”
NASCAR’s ties to Mexico run deep. Founder Bill France Sr. and racing legend Curtis Turner took part in the famed La Carrera Panamericana back in 1950. From 2005 to 2008, the NASCAR Xfinity Series also competed at the same Mexico City track, producing wins by top drivers like Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Martin Truex Jr.
The NASCAR Mexico Series, now in its 17th season, continues to develop rising stars and has become a critical part of the country’s motorsport culture. One of its most successful graduates is Monterrey native Daniel Suárez, who now competes in the NASCAR Cup Series and brings with him two career wins and over 60 top-ten finishes.
Suárez is not alone. NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity program has helped spotlight promising talent including Eloy López, Andrés Pérez de Lara, and Regina Sirvent – young drivers who are helping shape the future of racing.
Adding extra excitement to the weekend, American racing legend Jeff Gordon will serve as the Official Commander of the “Viva México 250.” The NASCAR Hall of Famer and four-time Cup Series champion will deliver the legendary “Drivers, start your engines” command, bringing star power to an already electric event.
With 93 career Cup Series wins and a legacy that spans decades, Gordon’s presence highlights NASCAR’s commitment to creating a world-class experience for fans in Mexico and beyond.
As celebrations for NASCAR Mexico City Weekend begin today, the motorsport world is focused on one of its most exciting new chapters.
