Nayarit Joins Mexican States Certified for U.S. Avocado Exports

Nayarit has officially earned authorization to export its Hass avocados directly to the United States, marking a historic first for the state. This approval makes Nayarit only the third region in all of Mexico, joining Michoacán and Jalisco, certified to ship this much-sought-after fruit across the border.

The foundation for this success was laid through the dedicated efforts and ongoing oversight of Governor Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero. His administration has diligently focused on enhancing plant health, maximizing agricultural productivity, and reinforcing the strength of Nayarit’s rural sector, leading to unprecedented progress.

These focused initiatives paved the way for improved coordination among key regulatory bodies, including Senasica (Mexico’s agri-food health agency), USDA-APHIS (the U.S. Department of Agriculture), and Mexico’s General Directorate of Plant Health.

Following thorough inspections in the municipalities of San Pedro Lagunillas and Santa María del Oro, authorities confirmed that Nayarit fully adheres to the demanding phytosanitary standards outlined in the “Operational Work Plan (OWP), Systems Approach for the Importation of Fresh Hass Avocado from Mexico to the United States.”

This new certification is poised to deliver a powerful boost to the state’s economy, generating fresh opportunities for producer families and firmly establishing Nayarit’s presence on the international agri-food stage. This achievement signals a promising new era for the state, reflecting the government’s steadfast commitment to fostering a competitive and prosperous countryside ready to successfully engage with global markets.
