Puerto Vallarta, México – Residents and visitors now have a new way to explore the Banderas Bay coastline following the official launch of a direct ferry service between Puerto Vallarta and Yelapa. Managed by the National Port System Administration (ASIPONA), the route aims to improve regional mobility while opening up the scenic southern region of the bay to more visitors.
The service began operations on Tuesday, January 6, when the vessel “Playa del Carmen” departed for its maiden voyage at 9:00 am from the Los Peines Pier. This new maritime link transforms the journey into a scenic ninety-minute experience, providing a reliable and efficient alternative to smaller water taxis. By establishing this connection, officials hope to foster economic growth and provide a seamless transit option for those traveling to Yelapa.
To ensure a high-quality experience for all passengers, the ferry is designed to accommodate up to 400 people per trip with versatile seating options. Half of the passengers can enjoy the fresh sea air and panoramic coastal views from the open-air deck, while the remaining 200 travelers can relax in an enclosed, air-conditioned cabin. This modern setup prioritizes passenger comfort and safety, making the trip accessible to a wider range of travelers regardless of the weather.
During this inaugural phase, the ferry will maintain a scheduled service on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. ASIPONA has indicated that they are prepared to increase the frequency of these trips as demand for the route grows. This strategic expansion of the local transportation network not only highlights the area’s commitment to tourism but also ensures that the secluded charm of Yelapa remains well-connected to the amenities of Puerto Vallarta.
