Puerto Vallarta, México – Construction of the new Mismaloya pier and boardwalk is moving forward, with the pier now 85 percent complete, according to Puerto Vallarta Mayor Luis Munguía. The project marks a significant step in improving infrastructure and visitor access to one of the region’s most recognized coastal destinations.

In a recent social media update, Munguía announced that the boardwalk section of the project is nearing completion. The new pier will replace the long-deteriorated structure, which has been unusable for years, while adding modern features aimed at improving functionality and enhancing the visitor experience.
Planned upgrades include expansive beach walkways and integrated lighting to improve nighttime visibility. The site will also feature high-speed internet access through the Red Jalisco network, ensuring that the scenic spot remains connected to the modern world. These enhancements are intended to support residents and accommodate the increasing number of visitors drawn to Mismaloya, located about 20 minutes south of downtown Puerto Vallarta.
City officials describe the project as part of a broader effort to strengthen tourism and increase safety in coastal areas. Munguía credited the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP) for its support, along with coordination from the State Government and technical oversight led by Engineer David Miguel Zamora Bueno. He noted that the collaborative effort has helped ensure the project progresses with quality standards and long-term planning.
Local leaders also emphasize the importance of balancing development with environmental preservation. The mayor noted that the improvements aim to respect Mismaloya’s natural surroundings while supporting community growth and maintaining its historic and tourism value.
The Mismaloya boardwalk and pier project is part of a larger regional strategy to enhance maritime connectivity throughout Banderas Bay. The initiative supports plans for a proposed “nautical staircase” designed to improve transportation and access between coastal communities.
Officials say they will continue to provide updates as construction advances toward completion, highlighting the project as an investment in the future of both Mismaloya and Puerto Vallarta.
