New Revitalization Efforts for Puerto Vallarta’s El Centro

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The heart of Puerto Vallarta, known as El Centro, is set to undergo an exciting transformation as municipal authorities launch a preservation and maintenance initiative aimed at enhancing its charm as a Pueblo Típico (typical town).

Alejandra Cornejo, the city’s Director of Tourism and Economic Development, emphasized the importance of this effort, which will be carried out with input from local residents and merchants to ensure the area retains its iconic Mexican village appeal.

“Our goal is to preserve the unique charm of El Centro while addressing the needs of both residents and businesses,” Alejandra Cornejo said. “We envision a thriving downtown that retains its authentic Mexican character,” she added.

Cornejo highlighted the collaboration between various municipal departments to address long-standing needs in the area. A newly established City Management division, led by businessman Juan Pablo Martínez Torres, is spearheading the initiative. According to Martínez Torres, the goal is to achieve noticeable improvements within 90 days, as guided by Mayor Luis Munguía’s vision.

The revitalization effort will involve a thorough assessment of the area, including La Isla Cuale, plazas, and municipal markets. Municipal authorities will conduct on-site visits to gather input from El Centro residents and businesses. These efforts align with existing laws that call for a cohesive urban image while preserving the area’s rich cultural and architectural heritage.

The project is already gaining momentum, with Cornejo reporting productive discussions with the Association of Urban Properties and local neighborhood groups. A shared work agenda has been established, reflecting a unified commitment to restoring and maintaining the historic charm of the 64-block district, which stretches from 31 de Octubre Street to Basilio Badillo Street in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood.

By addressing urban needs and fostering community collaboration, this initiative aims to ensure that Puerto Vallarta’s El Centro remains a thriving and welcoming destination for both locals and visitors, preserving its unique character and charm for generations to come.
