New Tepic-Compostela Highway to Boost Tourism in Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The completion of the Tepic-Compostela highway in Nayarit is poised to dramatically increase tourist traffic to Puerto Vallarta and the broader northern Jalisco region. Just as the existing highway from Guadalajara has spurred increased road travel, this new route is expected to attract more visitors from across the country.

Luis Antonio Villaseñor Nolasco, the general director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust, highlighted that this project is making substantial progress and is scheduled for completion in mid-September.

The new highway, along with the existing section from Compostela to Bucerías, will allow travelers to reach Bahía de Banderas and Puerto Vallarta from Tepic in approximately 90 minutes.

Villaseñor Nolasco noted that this 26-kilometer stretch of road will make Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas more accessible to tourists from northern Nayarit, Sinaloa, and even Durango or Zacatecas, who typically travel via the Mazatlán highway. Additionally, it will provide easier access for travelers from Torreón, Coahuila, connecting through Tepic.

He added that tourists from these regions are attracted to Puerto Vallarta’s diverse and affordable accommodations, engaging experiences, outdoor activities, culinary offerings, sports opportunities, and the area’s reputation for safety. He expressed confidence in the region’s ability to capitalize on the increased accessibility afforded by the new highway.
