Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Puerto Vallarta is experiencing a wave of transformation through strategic infrastructure projects that promise long-term benefits for locals and visitors alike. Mayor Luis Munguía and officials from the State Government, including the Secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works, David Zamora Bueno, recently toured two of the city’s most important ongoing developments: the Las Juntas interchange and the Mismaloya pier project.
In Mismaloya, a beloved coastal spot, the aging pier is being replaced by a modern structure that blends functionality with scenic appeal. The project, which is currently in the soil study phase, will include a tourist walkway with rest areas and lighting, all while preserving the area’s iconic rock formations and natural wave flow.
Meanwhile, the Las Juntas interchange is being fast-tracked to resolve one of the region’s most critical traffic bottlenecks between Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas. According to Secretary Zamora, “By the end of September, all vehicular traffic heading to the neighboring state will be circulating on the bridge.” Construction is ongoing around the clock, and there’s optimism it may be completed ahead of schedule.
The first phase of the interchange is nearing completion with beam placements to support connecting ramps. Although the work has caused temporary congestion, authorities assure that the long-term payoff will be substantial. The second phase, which includes pedestrian bridges and elevated return lanes near the Airport and Bus Station, is scheduled for review in December and could begin as early as January 2026 if approved.
Mayor Munguía expressed his appreciation for the continued support from Governor Pablo Lemus, stating, “We are very happy to see how our governor’s affection for Puerto Vallarta is reflected in these major projects.” He emphasized that these long-requested improvements represent real progress, combining thoughtful design with community impact.
With strong leadership and a clear vision, Puerto Vallarta is becoming a more accessible, attractive, and forward-thinking destination for all.
