Puerto Vallarta is anticipating an excellent fall-winter high season for 2025-2026, supported by expanding air connectivity and modern airport infrastructure. The Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) is preparing to operate an impressive 54 routes with over a thousand weekly flights, solidifying its position as one of the most dynamic air terminals in Mexico.
This optimistic outlook was shared by Omar Gildardo Torres Grajeda, Administrator of the Puerto Vallarta International Airport, during the 2025 Advisory Commission meeting. He reported a strong growth outlook based on requests from airlines, leading to an estimated 15% increase in flight operations. “We hope that the end of the season will be good for the destination,” Torres Grajeda stated, reflecting confidence in the region’s enduring appeal.
The airport is a crucial economic and tourism engine, ranking as the second busiest on the Mexican Pacific coast for international traffic, only after Los Cabos. By the end of October 2025, the airport had already welcomed 5.6 million passengers, a healthy 1.6% increase compared to the previous year, reinforcing its sustained growth trend. In 2024 alone, PVR connected 6.8 million travelers with the beautiful beaches of Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit.
Puerto Vallarta’s airport now ranks fifth in Mexico for international connectivity, offering 23 routes to the United States and 15 to Canada, alongside a robust offering of domestic flights. The local tourism sector has been proactive in creating conditions that minimize potential impacts from the US market’s contraction, ensuring that Puerto Vallarta maintains a clear trajectory of growth.

Torres Grajeda highlighted the airport’s ongoing expansion, noting preparations for its next stage of development. The year 2025 will conclude with the launch of 12 new routes, four of which are set to begin operations imminently. This surge reflects the strong interest travelers and airlines have in the destination and the attractions of the Mexican Pacific. “We appreciate the trust of our passengers and reaffirm our commitment to offering a safe, efficient, and high-quality experience,” he assured.
In parallel with increased traffic, a major expansion project is underway. The construction of the new terminal building is currently 56% complete and will effectively double the airport’s operational capacity. This forward-thinking project incorporates an intelligent design focusing on sustainability, featuring the use of renewable energy, optimized water management, landscaping with native species, and a circular economy approach.
With these advancements, the Puerto Vallarta International Airport is cementing its role as a benchmark for efficient operation, orderly expansion, and strategic connectivity, strengthening its crucial link between the Mexican Pacific and the rest of the world. The Pacific Airport Group (GAP) remains dedicated to providing excellent passenger-focused services, further contributing to the region’s overall economic and tourism development.
