Puerto Vallarta Airport Welcomed 2,385 Flights in January

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – According to the general director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Promotion and Advertising Trust, Luis Villaseñor Nolasco, 2,385 flights were welcomed at the Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport in January and, with the addition of three weekly flights on JetBlue, even more are expected in February.

“Today, we even have flights arriving from England and passengers from the Netherlands via connections in Mexico City, so this is further proof that Puerto Vallarta has made great progress in its tourism recovery,” he said.

Villaseñor went on to say that the recent rise in Covid cases worldwide, due to the transmissibility of the omicron variant, has caused airlines to make some adjustments to their flight schedules. This scenario is not unique to Puerto Vallarta, but is a factor at airports around the world.

Thankfully, this has not made a great impact on tourism to this destination. In fact, a Southwest flight from Austin, Texas will be arriving in March, and a new flight from Spain is scheduled to begin in August.

The tourism official said that new markets and connections are being sought from Europe, and they have been in communication with the airline’s sales force to work out the promotion and training campaigns.

“We are also looking for other options in markets that had previously shown interest, there is great potential for a new route from Europe to be completed before the end of the year,” he said.

He added that, despite the fact that Puerto Vallarta did not have a presence at the International Tourism Fair in Spain, the destination has been in close contact with airlines and other commercial partners to continue looking for opportunities to add more flights.
