Puerto Vallarta Airport Will More Than Double in Size

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – On December 1, Cryshtian José Amador Lizardi, the director of the Puerto Vallarta International Airport, announced that Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) intends to continue to invest in the works defined in its master development plan to optimize operations, which includes a new terminal building, towers, runways, roads, and parking lots.

The investments committed in the 2020-2024 master development plan (PMD) exceed 3 billion 26 million pesos and most of this amount will be invested over the next few years. In addition, during the five-year period from 2025-2029, at least another 1 billion 313 million pesos, 800 million of which will be invested in state-of-the-art equipment such as specialized vehicles for the Rescue and Firefighting Service (SSEI), security equipment and the renovation of aircraft for passenger transportation.

The airport terminal director said that the purpose of these investments is to modernize the airport and provide greater comfort to passengers.

“We are focusing our investment on passengers’ comfort and travel experience. Therefore, we have remodeled passenger inspection points and sanitary modules. The investment that will change the Airport is the construction of Terminal 2, as it more than doubles the surface area and passenger screening lines, as well as 50% more telescopic aisles and checked baggage screening systems, all of which give passengers more space and makes their trip more enjoyable,” the Airport Director said.

From January to October there were 3.1 million passengers, which represents a 76% recovery compared to the 4 million passengers the airport welcomed in 2019, before the pandemic.

In 2021, there will be 5.8 million seats available on flights to Puerto Vallarta. This is similar to the 5.85 million seats available in 2019.
