Acapulco, Mexico – The 2022 edition of the Tianguis Turístico, which was held from May 22-25 in Acapulco, Guerrero, broke records again, according to Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués.

At this 46th edition of the most important tourism industry event in Mexico a total of 64,950 business appointments took place, 7,663 more than were held in the 2021 edition and an additional 17,572 compared to the 2019 edition.

According to the results obtained at the Acapulco Tourist Market, Puerto Vallarta stood out among the most popular destinations among buyers, ranking fourth with a 32% preference.

This was announced by Torruco when presenting the conclusions of the 46th edition of Tianguis Turístico, in which he highlighted that 1,745 travel buyers signed up for this year’s Tianguis, 109 more compared to the 2021 edition.

With this agenda, a figure of 663 million pesos in business is estimated, which exceeds the 598 million pesos that were registered at the Tianguis held in Mérida last year.

He pointed out that the most popular destinations among buyers are: Cancun (47%), Acapulco (42%), Mexico City (34%), Puerto Vallarta (32%) and all the magical towns (30%). Likewise, he added that among the products that were most offered and reserved for the summer and winter season, sun and beach tourism stands out with 48%.

The head of SECTUR said that road tourism was also promoted as a key piece for the development and growth of domestic tourism, for which new road sections will be opened, including the one that will connect Guadalajara-Las Varas-Puerto Vallarta.

“In order to boost road tourism in the current administration, it is planned that by the end of this year, 747 kilometers of highways and bypasses will have been built; such as the Oaxaca-Tehuantepec, Guadalajara-Colima, Las Varas-Bucerías-Puerto Vallarta, Tuxpan-Tampico and Tuxtepec-AIFA-Pirámides highways, among many others that will represent an increase of 7.3% in relation to the existing ones,” he said.

During the last day of Tianguis Turístico activities, the Secretary of Tourism received many messages of approval from tour operators, travel agents, airlines, exhibitors, and authorities who attended this important Mexican tourism industry event.
