Puerto Vallarta and Japan Collaborate Ahead of 2026 World Cup

Puerto Vallarta’s municipal authorities and representatives from the Embassy of Japan in Mexico have successfully deepened their collaborative relationship. This partnership aims to significantly boost tourism and elevate the city’s international standing, especially in preparation for the influx of visitors expected for the 2026 World Cup.

With the global soccer tournament on the horizon, the city government, under the leadership of Mayor Luis Munguía, recently hosted a productive meeting to strengthen these ties of cooperation. The core goal is to actively promote Puerto Vallarta as a secure, culturally rich, and appealing destination for international travelers arriving in Mexico for the event.

The Japanese delegation included Ikezoe Toshihiro, Second Secretary of the Embassy, and Arie Migoya, from the Security Section. Both officials emphasized the strong interest of the Japanese government in fortifying its connection with the municipality.

Migoya offered high praise for the city, noting, “Vallarta is an exceptional place; we have always received great support from its authorities, and we believe it is an excellent destination for tourism and vacations.” He specifically commended PV’s safety, hospitality, and natural beauty.

This proactive engagement will allow for coordinated efforts during the World Cup, as explained by the Director of Economic Promotion and Tourism, Alejandra Cornejo. She highlighted that the approach will also strengthen cultural and commercial links with Japan.

“We want Puerto Vallarta to continue being a meeting point for cultures, a destination where visitors from Japan can enjoy and experience the warmth of our people firsthand,” Cornejo stated.

This positive dialogue marks the beginning of new opportunities for Puerto Vallarta and its residents. By fostering these international relationships, the city is not only strengthening its tourism sector and local economy but also facilitating a meaningful cultural exchange.

Through the municipal government’s ongoing efforts, Puerto Vallarta continues to build global connections that successfully drive development and position the city as a welcoming destination open to the world.
