Puerto Valalrta, Jalisco, México – The Puerto Vallarta City Council has approved a municipal donation of 300,000 pesos to strengthen the local fishing sector, marking a significant show of support for an activity deeply tied to the city’s history and identity. The funds will complement assistance already provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER), helping boost productivity and sustainability within the industry.
During an ordinary council session, Mayor Luis Munguía emphasized that the initiative is more than just a financial transaction; it is a gesture of respect for the social and productive value the primary sector provides to the municipality. He expressed deep gratitude for the fishing community’s hard work, noting that his administration is committed to championing initiatives that prioritize the well-being of those who provide for the city’s tables.
Antonio Güereña, president of the Federación de Cooperativas Pesqueras (Federation of Fishing Cooperatives), described the donation as historic. With nearly five decades in the profession, he said he had never seen comparable municipal support for the sector. Güereña also acknowledged the backing of the State Government led by Pablo Lemus, emphasizing that coordinated efforts have made this assistance, for which he and his colleagues are grateful, possible.
The approved funds are designed to strengthen productive activity and modernize the tools used by local fishing cooperatives. As these resources reach the docks, the benefits will ripple through the community, directly improving the economic stability of countless Puerto Vallarta households.
City officials say the measure reflects a broader commitment to preserving Puerto Vallarta’s fishing heritage while supporting the livelihoods that depend on it.
