Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – A team of 10 athletes from Puerto Vallarta is traveling to Guadalajara to compete in the 2026 CODE Jalisco State Games, where they will vie for a place on the Jalisco delegation that will compete at the 2026 National Paralympic Games later this year.
The CODE Jalisco State Games bring together athletes between the ages of 13 and 22 from municipalities across the state, serving as the qualifying event for Jalisco’s adapted sports team. The National Paralympic Games are scheduled to take place between September and October.
For Puerto Vallarta’s competitors, the event represents more than a chance to qualify. It is an opportunity to continue developing their skills, gain experience against the state’s top athletes, and take another step toward competing at the national level.
Among the athletes to watch is Antonio Lamas Ávalos, a world medalist in the 200-meter dash. Last month, he represented Mexico at the 2026 World Down Syndrome Championships in Bulgaria, where he delivered an outstanding performance by winning two gold medals in relay events and earning a bronze medal in the 200-meter dash. As one of Puerto Vallarta’s most accomplished athletes, Lamas enters the competition determined to once again earn a place among Jalisco’s top adapted sports competitors and qualify for the National Paralympic Games.
Joining him are several young athletes making their debut at the state level. Competing alongside experienced athletes will give these newcomers valuable exposure to high-level competition while helping them build confidence and experience for future events.
The participation of 10 athletes also reflects the steady expansion of adapted sports opportunities in Puerto Vallarta. More children and young adults with disabilities are participating in organized athletics, supported by programs that encourage inclusion and skill development.
The combination of experienced competitors and emerging talent in the 2026 CODE Jalisco State Games reflects ongoing efforts to expand sports inclusion and create pathways for athletes with disabilities to reach higher levels of achievement.
As the games get underway in Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta’s athletes will be focused on delivering strong performances and earning the results needed to join Team Jalisco at the 2026 National Paralympic Games, where they would have the chance to compete against the nation’s top adapted sports athletes.
