Puerto Vallarta has taken another step toward improving its waste collection service with the addition of nine new collection vehicles, part of a broader effort to strengthen sanitation across the municipality.
Just one week after Mayor Luis Munguía pledged to resolve the city’s waste collection challenges within a month and a half, the municipal government unveiled four new compactor trucks and five garbage collection vehicles funded through the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (ZOFEMAT) Technical Committee. The investment totaled more than 18 million pesos.
The new vehicles increase the city’s active collection fleet to 30 units, providing greater capacity to meet the growing demand for sanitation services. The compactor trucks will help expand regular collection routes to approximately 32 additional neighborhoods, while the five smaller trucks will respond to citizen reports and collect bulky waste, which typically increases during the rainy season.
During the presentation, Munguía said the municipality is committed to addressing one of Puerto Vallarta’s longest-standing service challenges by strengthening its operational capacity.
“There’s nothing better than confronting the problem head-on,” the mayor said, adding that a second phase is already being planned to further expand the collection fleet.
In addition to the new vehicles, the city is rehabilitating between nine and twelve compactor trucks currently undergoing repairs so they can return to service. Officials are also evaluating the purchase of additional truck cabs to further improve operations.
Mayor Munguía also announced incentive programs for Public Cleaning employees. Drivers and collection crews that complete 100% of their assigned routes and schedules will receive a bonus of 10,000 pesos each, while the second-best performing team will earn 5,000 pesos each.
Director of Efficient Services Rodolfo Domínguez said the expanded fleet will make collection routes more efficient while ensuring backup vehicles are available whenever needed.
The expanded fleet is expected to provide faster, more reliable collection service while helping the municipality manage the increasing amount of solid waste produced each day.
Municipal officials also encouraged residents to support the effort by following established garbage collection schedules and disposing of waste responsibly. While the city continues investing in improved sanitation services, authorities emphasized that public cooperation remains essential to keeping Puerto Vallarta clean.
