Puerto Vallarta is taking a major step toward becoming a more connected city. Thanks to a new partnership with the Jalisco State Government’s Internet Access and Connectivity Agency, the municipality will soon offer more than 300 free Wi-Fi access points in public spaces via the Jalisco Red network.
The agreement, signed by Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía, aims to improve digital inclusion and modernize city services. Free internet will now be available in schools, plazas, public buildings, and tourist hotspots like the Malecón – meeting the growing need for access to digital tools for education, work, tourism and recreation.
During the agreement signing, Mayor Munguía emphasized the significance of connectivity as a fundamental element for social and economic progress. “We are making progress in consolidating a more connected, inclusive, and modern city. This infrastructure is just the first step in a broader phase of digitalization that also includes the implementation of digital government services to improve citizen service,” he stated.
To ensure quality service, a technical team has already begun maintaining and upgrading current access points. The plan also involves the strategic relocation of some current points and the installation of new connectivity sites in public parks and other heavily trafficked areas.
Municipal Trustee Dr. Francisco Sánchez shared that a public awareness and signage campaign will soon launch to help residents and visitors easily find the free internet zones.
This initiative aligns with the Smart Government Management strategy promoted by the current administration. The objective is to establish Puerto Vallarta as a smart city where innovation, connectivity, and technological application serve as essential foundations for the welfare and development of its inhabitants.
