Puerto Vallarta Expects a Strong Summer Tourism Season

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Puerto Vallarta is gearing up for a lively summer as thousands of national visitors plan their vacations during the upcoming school break. With sunny skies, warm weather, and a wide range of attractions, the city is preparing to welcome travelers seeking unforgettable getaways.

The 2025 summer vacation period in Mexico begins Thursday, July 17, and runs through Friday, August 29. During this time, Puerto Vallarta tourism authorities expect hotel occupancy to surpass 75%, with even higher rates on weekends, thanks to a strong influx of domestic tourists.

Luis Villaseñor Nolasco, director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust, attributes the optimistic forecast to the city’s wide variety of accommodations – more than 22,500 hotel rooms in all categories – plus its growing popularity as a family destination. He also pointed to the increasing trend of shorter, last-minute trips, which has been fueled by the new Guadalajara-Puerto Vallarta highway. Now just a 2.5-hour drive, this shortcut makes quick family getaways easier than ever.

The city’s culinary scene is also preparing for a busy season. With over 250 restaurants offering diverse cuisines and settings, there’s something to satisfy every taste and budget, from traditional Mexican fare to international dishes. Canirac (the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry) projects that sales in the restaurant sector could increase by up to 60 percent during these weeks.

The city’s appeal continues to grow with improved accessibility. A new Volaris route from Morelia, Michoacán adds to the airline’s network, giving Puerto Vallarta a total of nine domestic connections and even more options for travelers.

With its natural beauty, clean and secure surroundings, and activities for every age and interest, Puerto Vallarta is well-positioned for a successful and joyful summer season.
