Puerto Vallarta Gears Up for National Vaccination Week

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The Eighth Health Region is encouraging Puerto Vallarta residents to participate in National Vaccination Week 2025, scheduled from April 26th to May 3rd. This initiative, a collaborative effort between the Eighth Health Region, the Jalisco State Government, and the “Government of Good” under Mayor Luis Munguía, aims to bolster community health by providing crucial immunizations against preventable diseases.

During this week-long campaign, a total of 14 basic vaccines, along with booster shots and additional biologicals as recommended by the Ministry of Health, will be administered. The vaccinations will prioritize specific groups, including infants up to one year old, children aged one to nine, adolescents, pregnant individuals (starting from the 20th week of pregnancy), adults between 20 and 59 years old, individuals over 60, and healthcare workers aged 20 to 39. Residents are advised to bring their vaccination records and adhere to standard preventative health measures.

The vaccines being offered during National Vaccination Week include: BCG (for tuberculosis), Hepatitis B, Acellular hexavalent (for diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, Hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenzae type b), Rotavirus, Pneumococcal conjugate (for pneumonia and meningitis), Antipneumococcal polysaccharide (for pneumonia and meningitis), SRP (for measles, rubella, and mumps), DPT (for diphtheria, whooping cough, and tetanus), TD (for tetanus and diphtheria), Tdap (for diphtheria, whooping cough, and tetanus), HPV (to prevent cervical cancer and genital warts), and SR (for measles and rubella).

Vaccine administration will be tailored to individual age, health status, and prior vaccination history. Specific emphasis will be placed on early childhood (BCG, Hepatitis B, Hexavalent, Rotavirus, Pneumococcus), childhood (SRP, Pneumococcus, and DPT boosters), adolescents (HPV, Td, SR, Hepatitis B), pregnant women (Tdap), adults (Td, SR, and Hepatitis B boosters based on risk factors), older adults (Pneumococcal vaccine), and healthcare personnel (SR and Hepatitis B boosters).

Initial vaccination sites on Saturday, April 26th, will be at the La Lija Cultural Center, the Municipal DIF, and the Ixtapa Main Plaza. On Sunday, April 27th, a module will be available at the Mojoneras Market. Starting Monday, April 28th, vaccinations will be accessible at all Centros de Salud (health centers) and hospitals within the Eighth Health Region, as well as at IMSS and ISSSTE facilities.

Dr. Jaime Álvarez Zayas, director of the Eighth Health Region, urged the community to participate, stating, “We call on the entire community to take advantage of this opportunity. Getting vaccinated is an act of responsibility and love for oneself and others.”

This initiative underscores the commitment of the State Government and Mayor Luis Munguía’s administration to the well-being of Puerto Vallarta families.
