Puerto Vallarta Honors Soccer Legend with New Youth Tournament

Puerto Vallarta kicked off the Municipal Children’s and Youth Soccer League last Saturday with the opening of the highly anticipated Demetrio Madero García Tournament. From early morning, fields across the city came alive as more than 100 teams and thousands of young players launched into competition, cheered on by their families and fans.

The tournament is more than just a sporting event – it marks a new chapter in local and regional soccer, reaffirming Puerto Vallarta as a key hub for developing talent and inspiring future athletes. Players from across the region are seizing the opportunity to test their skills, build friendships, and represent their communities with pride.

League president Professor Francisco Bravo Carbajal emphasized that the tournament not only celebrates competition but also pays tribute to one of Puerto Vallarta’s greatest soccer icons, Demetrio Madero García. Rising from local fields to become a central defender for Chivas de Guadalajara, Madero left a lasting mark on Mexican soccer, ranking among the club’s all-time leaders in games played. His story continues to inspire young athletes chasing their own dreams.

Organizers are focused on more than athletic achievement. The League has set ambitious goals to instill values like teamwork, discipline, and respect, ensuring players grow as well-rounded individuals on and off the field. Parents, coaches, and league officials are working together to make the event a platform for both athletic and personal growth.

“Our challenge is to train players with solid values as well as strong athletic ability,” said Bravo Carbajal. “This collaboration ensures that soccer in Puerto Vallarta continues to be a force for community and personal development.”

With excitement on the field and commitment from the community, the Demetrio Madero García Tournament promises a season filled with memorable matches, personal achievements, and the nurturing of the next generation of soccer talent.
