Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, México – For the fourth time, Puerto Vallarta stands as the official host for one of the most prestigious trail running events on the planet. From April 16 to 18, 2026, the Pacific coast of Mexico will welcome the Ultra Trail Mont-Blanc (UTMB) World Series, a global circuit that connects elite international athletes with Mexico’s top road and trail runners.
This massive gathering brings more than 3,000 passionate participants to the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range, further establishing Puerto Vallarta as a premier destination for international sports tourism.
The competition offers five distinct distances designed to accommodate a wide range of skill levels and ambitions.
Runners can choose the rigorous 100-kilometer Hikuri or the 50-kilometer Nakawé and Haramara challenges. For those seeking shorter distances, the 20-kilometer Ereno and the 5-kilometer Pata Salada provide accessible ways to experience the region’s diverse terrain.

These routes take athletes on a spectacular journey through dense jungles and across rushing streams, showcasing the rich natural beauty of the Mexican landscape before concluding at the water’s edge.
The final stretch of the race is widely regarded as the most exciting last mile in the sport. To reach the finish line, athletes cross Cuale’s River Island, a cultural hub filled with local crafts and traditional restaurants.
The path continues along the famous Malecón, where runners are surrounded by striking sculptures and the expansive view of the Pacific Ocean. This coastal finish provides an unforgettable reward for the physical effort required to traverse the mountains.
Beyond the competition itself, the weekend serves as a major cultural celebration. The event atmosphere is amplified by live performances from premier mariachi bands, traditional folk dancing, and modern sets from local DJs. Visitors can also explore Mexico’s largest trail running expo, which features the latest in athletic gear and nutrition.
By blending high-stakes competition with the hospitality of the Jalisco region, the Puerto Vallarta by UTMB event offers an experience that is both a grueling athletic test and a joyful appreciation of nature.
