Puerto Vallarta Launches Winter Flu Vaccination Drive

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – As cooler months approach, Puerto Vallarta has launched its annual flu vaccination campaign to help residents stay healthy throughout the winter season.

The Jalisco Ministry of Health (SSJ), together with national health institutions including IMSS, ISSSTE, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Ministry of the Navy, officially began the 2025–2026 Winter Season Vaccination Campaign on October 13. The program will continue through March 2026.

According to Dr. Jaime Álvarez Zayas, director of the VIII Health Region, Puerto Vallarta’s goal is to administer more than 50,000 influenza vaccines during this period. The pneumococcal vaccine will also be available for older adults and individuals with weakened immune systems.

Vaccinations are being provided free of charge at local health centers, ensuring quick and safe access for all residents. Health officials emphasize that timely vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent respiratory infections that tend to increase during colder months.

Priority will be given to vulnerable groups such as children, adults over 60, individuals with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, and healthcare professionals.

Authorities are encouraging the public to visit their nearest health center as soon as possible to strengthen their defenses and help maintain community well-being this winter season.

Free flu vaccines will be offered Monday through Friday mornings at all local health centers, including the Puerto Vallarta Centro de Salud El Centro, the Centro de Salud Remance, Naval Hospital, Regional Hospital, and facilities in municipal capitals such as Mascota and Tomatlán.

Dr. Álvarez Zayas stressed that vaccination is not only essential for individual health but also crucial for community protection. Given the potential risks associated with influenza, especially for at-risk populations, the VIII Health Region urges all residents to visit designated healthcare centers to receive their free flu shot.
