Puerto Vallarta Marks 3,355 Free Pet Sterilizations

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Puerto Vallarta’s dedication to animal welfare is creating real change, with the city’s government reaching a new achievement of over 3,300 free pet sterilizations. As of early September, the total number of procedures completed stands at 3,355, thanks to ongoing campaigns led by the Animal Welfare Department under the leadership of Mayor Luis Munguía.

The city’s initiative offers free sterilization services every Thursday at various locations. These ongoing campaigns are designed to control pet overpopulation, reduce the number of abandoned animals, and promote responsible ownership. Beyond helping the animals, the program provides significant financial relief for families who might find it difficult to afford veterinary care.

A recent highlight of the city’s efforts was its inaugural Animal Welfare Fair, a three-day event that saw a remarkable 229 sterilizations. The event took place at multiple venues, including Linear Park, the Ixtapa Dome, La Lija Sports Center, and the Agustín Flores Contreras Stadium. In addition to the surgeries, attendees received valuable information on proper pet care and the importance of preventive health measures.

Roberto Ornelas, head of the Animal Welfare Department, emphasized the critical role of sterilization. He noted that each surgery is an act of responsibility and care that helps prevent the spread of disease, limits uncontrolled breeding, and ultimately reduces the number of pets on the city’s streets.

The sterilization campaigns will continue every Thursday throughout the city. Residents are encouraged to follow the Animal Welfare Department’s social media pages for updates on schedules, as well as important pre-procedure instructions and guidelines. The department reminds all residents that a responsible approach to pet ownership starts with sterilization.
