Puerto Vallarta Residents Lead 2026 Property Tax Kickoff

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The 2026 property tax season in Puerto Vallarta officially commenced on Friday, January 2, with an inspiring display of civic dedication. To celebrate the start of the collection period, the municipal government hosted a special recognition ceremony at the Municipal Administrative Unit (UMA), honoring the first three residents who stepped forward to contribute to the city’s future.

Leading the way was Dr. Claudio Rafael Vásquez Martínez, who has maintained a remarkable 25-year streak of being among the first to fulfill his fiscal responsibilities. Dr. Vásquez Martínez demonstrated his commitment by arriving at the UMA facilities at 1:00 am on New Year’s Day, waiting patiently until offices opened at 8:00 am to make his payment.

His dedication was followed closely by Javier Estrada, who arrived at 7:30 am on January 1, and Luis Fregoso, who secured his place in line at 4:10 am on January 2. All three men were presented with awards and festive gift baskets by the Luis Munguía administration as a token of appreciation for their punctuality.

This early participation reflects a broader optimism for the city’s development. Hugo Alberto Robles Cibrián, Director of the Municipal Cadastre, shared that the government anticipates collecting approximately 600 million pesos from property taxes this year. These funds are vital to the community, as they are directly earmarked for infrastructure projects and public services that benefit all residents of Puerto Vallarta.

To encourage further participation, Gibran Villaseñor Madrigal, Head of Revenue for the Municipal Treasury, highlighted significant incentives for those who pay early. Residents can benefit from a 15% discount throughout January, followed by a 10% discount in February.

To make the process as accessible as possible, several collection points have been established across the city, including City Hall, UNIRSE, La Lija, and the Pitillal Cultural Center. Furthermore, the city offers a modern online portal at puertovallarta.gob.mx, allowing for secure payments via bank transfer or credit card 24 hours a day.

Beyond the general early-bird incentives, the city continues to provide substantial support for specific groups through a tiered discount program, provided the applicants are Mexican citizens. These preferential rates offer a 50% reduction for retirees, widows, people with disabilities, and seniors aged 60 to 74. Older citizens receive even deeper discounts, with a 60% reduction for those aged 75 to 79 and an 80% discount for individuals 80 years and older.

By combining these supportive measures with the enthusiasm shown by early payers like Dr. Vásquez Martínez, Puerto Vallarta begins the new year with a strong foundation for growth and community well-being.
