Puerto Vallarta Secures Top Tier Spot for 2025 Thanksgiving Travel

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – For the fifth consecutive year, Puerto Vallarta has cemented its status as one of the world’s premier destinations for the Thanksgiving holiday, ranking among the top three international locales for U.S. travelers.

This impressive standing is based on an analysis of over 700,000 travel itineraries by Allianz Partners USA, specifically focusing on flights departing from U.S. airports between November 22-27 and returning from November 28-December 2, 2025.

By surpassing major global cities such as London, Paris, and Punta Cana, Puerto Vallarta continues to draw Americans seeking a warm-weather holiday alternative.

The general popularity of Mexico as a Thanksgiving getaway remains strong, with the country dominating the top international rankings. Cancun secured the number one spot for the fifth straight year, and both San Jose Del Cabo and Puerto Vallarta maintained their positions in the top three. Mexico City also made its mark on the list, ranking 8th overall. These consistent results underscore the significant appeal of Mexican destinations for U.S. holidaymakers.

Luis Villaseñor Nolasco, director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust, attributes the city’s sustained success to its diverse and comprehensive tourism offerings. The destination boasts an abundance of accommodations, with 433 lodging establishments, providing options that cater to every traveler, from luxurious resorts to intimate boutique hotels. This expansive lodging capacity is effectively supported by excellent air connectivity, which includes 14 domestic and 42 international routes linking the city to major urban centers across the Americas and beyond.

Moreover, the destination actively promotes its experiential tourism, offering more than 50 outdoor activities for the adventurous traveler, alongside an exceptional culinary scene featuring around 1,000 restaurants that offer over 30 different cuisines.

The report also highlights a broader shift in how Americans are approaching their holiday trips. As Emily Hartman, General Manager at Allianz Partners USA, noted, “Americans are once again making Thanksgiving travel a priority, but they’re also becoming savvier about how they plan.” The trend shows that more travelers are booking their trips earlier, spending confidently, and prioritizing travel insurance to mitigate potential disruptions. Ultimately, this planning allows them to focus on quality time with loved ones, which remains the core objective of the holiday.

Ultimately, this collection of top Thanksgiving destinations – including Puerto Vallarta’s natural beauty, Cancun’s festive energy, and San Jose Del Cabo’s charm – offers a perfect opportunity for U.S. travelers to break away from traditional holiday crowds.

Whether the goal is relaxation, cultural immersion, or adventure, these cities provide memorable, unique, and personal ways to celebrate Thanksgiving.
