Puerto Vallarta Strengthens Measles Prevention Efforts

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, México – Puerto Vallarta has taken a proactive step to protect public health with the creation of the Municipal Health Committee, a new body designed to improve disease prevention, coordination, and access to healthcare services for local families.

The committee brings together the municipal government and the health sector to address key health challenges through planning, prevention, and clear communication with the public. Its goal is to strengthen inter-institutional cooperation while ensuring residents receive timely and accurate health information.

Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía González said the committee reflects the city’s commitment to listening to the community and acting responsibly. He noted that public health requires ongoing effort and teamwork, with a focus on actions that deliver real benefits for Puerto Vallarta families.

During the committee’s session, Health Region VIII Director Dr. Jaime Álvarez Zayas highlighted the importance of preventing diseases such as measles through vaccination programs and continuous epidemiological surveillance. Dr. Miguel Ángel Suárez, Director of Health Promotion, added that coordinated preventive measures have helped Puerto Vallarta remain free of active measles cases.

With the Municipal Health Committee now in place, city officials reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with residents and health authorities. The public is encouraged to stay informed and follow health guidelines, reinforcing the shared responsibility of prevention and community well-being.
