Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Traditional yellow taxis in Puerto Vallarta are modernizing their services with the launch of the “Yellow Taxi PV” mobile application. Available for download on iOS and Android devices since January 15th, this innovative platform allows passengers to easily request a ride directly from their smartphones.
Marcelo Castillo Gómez, representing the local taxi union, officially unveiled the app, emphasizing its commitment to fair and consistent fares. Unlike ride-sharing services that utilize dynamic pricing models, Yellow Taxi PV will maintain fixed rates, ensuring predictable travel costs for passengers, regardless of weather conditions, special events, or traffic congestion.
“We are excited to offer Puerto Vallarta residents and visitors a convenient and reliable way to access traditional taxi services,” stated Castillo. “The Yellow Taxi PV app provides a seamless user experience while upholding the integrity of our established pricing structure.”
Passengers can conveniently pay for their rides through the app itself, using the onboard credit/debit card processing terminal, or in cash. Furthermore, there are no cancellation fees, providing passengers with added flexibility and peace of mind.
To encourage adoption, the app is offering a 20-peso discount on the first ride for all new users. Additionally, the union is urging all taxi drivers to join the platform by registering through the official Yellow Taxi PV website.
While the initial number of participating drivers is currently around 60-70, representing a small fraction of the approximately 1,700 taxis operating in the city, the app’s developers are confident that user growth will drive increased driver participation.
This latest initiative marks a significant step forward for the local taxi industry. Following a previous attempt with the Official Taxi PVR app in 2019, which saw limited success due to low driver participation and minimal promotion, Yellow Taxi PV aims to establish itself as a reliable and accessible transportation option for both residents and tourists alike.
