Puerto Vallarta, Mexico — Puerto Vallarta is set to host its first-ever Mental Health Race on Sunday, October 12, at the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Complex. The event, beginning at 6:30 a.m., invites families to take part in a 5-kilometer run aimed at raising awareness about anxiety, self-care, and mental well-being.
Organized by Sanamente Atención Psiquiátrica and supported by the Gobierno del Bien through COMUDE Vallarta, the race is not focused on speed or competition, but on participation and raising awareness, particularly about anxiety and the importance of self-care.
Dr. Ana Paula González Toledo, a psychiatrist and director of Sanamente Atención Psiquiátrica, shared the vision for the race, explaining that the goal is to “open spaces for dialogue about the mind and prevention measures.”
Daniel López Coronado, COMUDE’s events manager, emphasized the administration’s commitment, stating, “As a government, we have the responsibility to promote both physical and mental health; that’s why we support these types of projects that strengthen the community.”
The day’s schedule is packed with activities promoting both physical and mental fitness. Participants will first enjoy a free yoga class before the 5K race officially begins at 7:30 am.
After the race, the celebration continues with engaging demonstrations, including Muay Thai and a lively group salsa class. Attendees will also gain access to a Health Fair featuring 21 informational booths dedicated to prevention activities and mental wellness resources.
Registration is 350 pesos per person, or a discounted 300 pesos per person for groups of five or more. The entry fee includes a commemorative t-shirt, a medal, hydration, and access to all the post-race festivities. While the event celebrates participation, the top three finishers will receive prizes, including complimentary stays at local hotels.
Tickets can be purchased by reaching out via WhatsApp at 322-214-7772 or at various physical locations across the city, including Cardiomed, Universidad Vizcaya, the College of Psychologists, and the COMUDE offices.
This inaugural race is an inspiring step for Puerto Vallarta, shining a positive light on mental health and bringing the community together for a meaningful cause.
