Puerto Vallarta to Honor Citizens with 2025 Premio Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – In celebration of Puerto Vallarta’s 107th anniversary as a municipality and 57 years as an official city, the municipal government has approved the recipients of the 2025 Premio Vallarta – an award honoring individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions to the community.

Following a careful review by the Premio Vallarta Advisory Council, five honorees were selected and confirmed during a recent City Council session. These awards will be presented at a special ceremony on May 31 at 4:00 pm at the iconic the Aquiles Serdán Open-Air Theater, also known as Los Arcos del Malecón.

Rafael Yerena Zambrano will receive the “Ignacio Luis Vallarta Ogazón” Award for his distinguished career and service to Puerto Vallarta.

The “Alfonso Díaz Santos” Sports Award will go to Daniela García Montoy, while Susana Judith Mendoza Carreño will be recognized with the “Guadalupe Sánchez Torres” Award for her environmental efforts.

The “Manuel Lepe” Arts Award will honor Luz Marcella Lepe Quiroz, and the “Teresa Barba Palomera” Cultural Award will be presented to the environmental group Limpia Tu Mar Puerto Vallarta A.C.

Additionally, special recognitions will be given to Carlos Gustavo López Guzmán and Julián Ortega Estrada, as proposed by the Premio Vallarta Advisory Council council. Mayor Luis Munguía also proposed a tribute to José Manuel Martínez Peña, the artist behind the city’s coat of arms, which has represented Puerto Vallarta’s identity since it became a city in 1968.

These honors reflect Puerto Vallarta’s commitment to recognizing the people and institutions that help shape its cultural, environmental, and civic legacy.

To further support public engagement, the City Council also approved the Aquiles Serdán Open-Air Theater, commonly known as Los Arcos del Malecón, as an official alternate venue for council activities. A new protocol was established to guide future events to be held there.
