Puerto Vallarta to Launch $40M Peso Tourist and Cultural Corridor

Puerto Vallarta to Launch M Peso Tourist and Cultural Corridor

Puerto Vallarta’s port authority, Asipona, is set to begin construction this year on an exciting new tourism and cultural corridor. With a 40 million peso investment, the project aims to enhance the experience for cruise passengers and other visitors to the destination, adding unique attractions and showcasing the rich culture of the region.

Plans for the corridor include a botanical garden focused on agave plants and the tequila-making process, a museum, an arts center, and retail spaces for local artisans. The new development is expected to become a key attraction ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which will bring increased international attention to nearby Guadalajara.

During the first quarter of the year, Asipona Puerto Vallarta welcomed 57 cruise ships, just one fewer than the same period in 2024. However, the number of disembarking passengers rose by 15.5 percent, reaching 63,434 visitors. This growth highlights the city’s growing popularity as a cruise destination.

Puerto Vallarta is part of the popular Mexican Riviera route, alongside Cabo San Lucas and Mazatlán. These seven-day cruises typically begin in Los Angeles, Long Beach, or San Diego and cater mainly to U.S. travelers, with additional guests from across the Americas, Europe, and Asia.

In March, Puerto Vallarta established the Municipal Tourism Advisory Council to encourage collaboration among the government, private sector, and tourism associations. According to Asipona, since cruises are vital to the sector, the council is working to boost the port’s role in tourism development and elevate the city’s status as a premier travel destination.

Asipona highlighted Puerto Vallarta’s global reputation for hospitality and Jalisco’s proud heritage as the birthplace of tequila and mariachi, positioning the city as a leading Mexican port. With three berths capable of hosting world-class cruise ships, the port remains committed to delivering top-tier service and memorable visitor experiences.
