Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Puerto Vallarta showed its heart on Sunday, June 15, as over 1,000 runners gathered to take part in the first Carrera por la Niñez (Race for Children) – a new initiative from the municipal DIF System. The event raised funds for the city’s Child Development Assistance Centers (CADIs), and celebrated health, unity, and community spirit.
The morning air buzzed with excitement as Mayor Luis Munguía, alongside Zaira Castillón, the general director of the municipal DIF, officially signaled the start for each eager participant. Participants of all ages joined in, from young children in the peques category to families, seniors, and even pets, creating an atmosphere full of energy, joy and harmonious community interaction.
A testament to the event’s inclusive nature, Claudia Peña, president of the DIF System, personally joined hundreds of Vallartenses in the 2-kilometer freestyle race. Her participation underscored the collective enthusiasm and served as an open invitation for even greater engagement in future initiatives that champion the welfare of children in Puerto Vallarta.
As the last runners crossed the finish line, an atmosphere of cheerful accomplishment filled the air. Medals and awards were presented to the top finishers in each category, with generous support from a host of community-minded sponsors. The event’s success was made possible by generous sponsors including Electrolit, Starbucks, Farmacias PV, Universidad Vizcaya, Hospital Joya, and many others committed to community well-being.
The success of this first Carrera por la Niñez promises to become a cherished tradition that brings people together for fun and a meaningful cause. This event truly embodies the city’s commitment to its youngest residents, promising a brighter future for all.
