Puerto Vallarta Unveils 2024–2027 Sustainability Plan

Puerto Vallarta is taking important steps toward a cleaner and more sustainable future. During a recent Ecology Council session, Mayor Luis Munguía unveiled the 2024–2027 work plan from the Environmental Sustainability Directorate, placing ecological care at the heart of his administration.

The plan outlines clear goals: to prevent, reduce, and repair the environmental impacts that threaten the city’s natural balance. Mayor Munguía emphasized that true sustainability depends on both government action and community involvement.

One key focus is the Local Ecological Planning Program, which will help guide land use and economic activities while protecting the area’s natural resources. The city will also take part in updating the Municipal Risk Atlas and revising the Municipal Ecology Regulations to reflect modern-day challenges.

Education is another top priority. Programs for children will encourage waste separation, host environmental fairs, and offer interactive exhibits. Municipal workers will also receive training in environmental sustainability, supporting long-term change within city departments.

The plan also calls for better waste management, the rescue and legal protection of ecological parks, and stronger protections for local wildlife, such as the Vallarta turtle. Efforts to certify local beaches through comprehensive environmental standards are also included.

By blending conservation, education, and responsible planning, Puerto Vallarta is working to ensure a healthier city for both residents and future generations.
