Puerto Vallarta enjoyed a remarkable year in 2024, welcoming a surge of cruise ship passengers and solidifying its position as a leading tourist destination in Mexico. Over 548,000 cruise visitors arrived, generating a significant economic impact of 909.9 million pesos.
This represents a substantial increase compared to 2023, when the destination received 543,609 passengers, and an 18.6% rise compared to 2022, which saw 458,319 cruise visitors.
Puerto Vallarta’s charm and appeal continue to draw tourists from around the globe, with 285,635 cruise passengers arriving from January to June 2024 alone. The high season further boosted these numbers, with October bringing in 55,912 visitors, November 70,396, and December 74,449, according to data from the Jalisco State Tourism Information System and ASIPONA Puerto Vallarta.
This steady growth underscores the destination’s enduring allure and highlights its vital role in the Mexican Pacific’s tourism and economic sectors.
Looking ahead, the potential delay of the foreign cruise ship passenger tax to 2026 could drive increased cruise travel in 2025. This postponement may play a crucial role in sustaining and potentially growing the number of cruise passengers visiting Puerto Vallarta, supporting ongoing growth in the local tourism industry.
As the local tourism industry flourishes, Puerto Vallarta continues to attract both national and international visitors, solidifying its reputation as a key driver of regional economic growth. These encouraging trends point to a prosperous future for the destination and its place in the global travel market.
