Puerto Vallarta’s Playa de Oro Earns Platinum Beach Status

Puerto Vallarta reaffirmed its national leadership in environmental matters by participating in the 5th National Meeting of Sustainable Beaches, held in Cancun, Quintana Roo, where the efforts of coastal destinations most committed to environmental conservation and the responsible management of their coastlines were recognized.

Representing the mayor, Luis Munguía, Councilman Christian Omar Bravo Carbajal, head of the Municipal Commission for Free, Clean, and Certified Beaches, presented the paper “Clean Beaches Model,” in which he shared the strategies that have made Puerto Vallarta a national benchmark in certification, citizen participation, and environmental education.

During the ceremony, Puerto Vallarta received the Platinum Beach recognition for Playa de Oro, a distinction that attests to excellence in cleanliness, safety, tourist services, comprehensive management, and environmental commitment. This achievement consolidates the destination as an example of coastal sustainability in Mexico.

The meeting was headed by the mayor of Cancun, Ana Paty Peralta, the general director of the Mexican Institute for Standardization and Conformity Assessment (IMEEC), Viviana Fernández, and the Head of the Secretariat of Ecology and Environment of the State of Quintana Roo, Óscar Alberto Rébora Aguilera, representing Governor Mara Lezama.

Representatives from various coastal municipalities also participated, including Bahía de Banderas, Tulum, Los Cabos, San Pedro Pochutla, Isla Mujeres, and Playa del Carmen, who were awarded Sustainable and Platinum Beach certifications for their commitment to preserving the marine environment and the continuous improvement of their beaches.

In addition, recognitions were given to hoteliers from Cancun and the Riviera Maya for their outstanding collaboration in environmental education programs, waste management, and the promotion of good tourism practices, reinforcing the alliance between the private sector and local governments to guarantee responsible and sustainable development.

“This recognition belongs to the people of Puerto Vallarta, to its volunteers, hoteliers, associations, and public servants who work day after day with love and commitment to keep our beaches clean and safe,” said Christian Omar Bravo Carbajal upon receiving the award, emphasizing that this achievement is the result of the vision and support of Mayor Luis Munguía.
