Puerto Vallarta, México – The latest news from PuRR Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter just north of Puerto Vallarta that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.

KITTY BINGO: The February dates are the 11th & 25th. Games start at 4:00 at Nacho Daddy in Old Town and we have a lot of great prizes waiting for winners who shout “MEOW!”. So mark your PuRR Calendar and grab a friend to join in and have some fun while supporting the 300+ cats and kittens at the shelter.
SATURDAY MARKET: We’ll be at our regular spot outside Daiquiri Dick’s every Saturday from 10-1:00 with all the PuRR logo T-shirts, 2026 Calendars, caps, drink holders & the popular dish towels. They all make great gifts for your cat-loving friends and family… and yourself!
MAKE VIRTUAL ADOPTION A REALITY!
Choosing presents for birthdays, special occasions (and Valentine’s Day!) can be complicated. But there is an easy solution that does more than bring joy to givers and recipients – the Virtual Adoption of a PuRR Project cat that is unlikely to be adopted!
Take, for example, 8-year-old Bob Marley, an orange tabby that lives in the shelter’s casita for senior and special needs cats. He greets volunteers with a head tilt, pressing his face into a hand as an invitation to share affection. While endearing, the tilt is evidence of a neurological condition. For a mere $120 annually, you can support the nonprofit that has served thousands of felines while giving a family member or friend (or yourself) a meaningful gift. PETCO
The PetCo Adoption Center is still our best source of adoptions with 10 in early January… and 4 on January 24th! With so MANY kittens in the nursery casitas, it’s sometimes difficult to choose who is going. We try to pick the friendliest and of course they are all tested, vaccinated, sterilized and ready for that Forever Home!
SHELTER UPDATE: THE BIG HOLE
Those of us who have even a couple of cats at home know how much and how heavy the litter box waste can get! Can you imagine that multiplied by 300? With about 17 litter boxes that are cleaned twice daily plus there are the dozens of yard cats and all that waste had to go somewhere…the BIG HOLE! So every couple of years we bring in a backhoe to dig a new compost hole at the far end of the property, then cover the old hole and haul away any extra soil.
RANCH HIGHLIGHT – THE BUNGALOWS
You may wonder how the PuRR Project provides living spaces for around 300 felines at one time. “Yard cats” are free to roam the grounds but have dedicated feeding/rain shelters. This structure we call the Bungalows is divided into four temporary quarters used primarily for moms with new litters, kitties that must be isolated while being treated for a medical condition or new cats that need a bit of transition time “to chill” before being integrated with other felines. “The Bungalows” were made possible with a donation from Terri and Gray Levy.
