Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Around 80 children ages 8 to 15 took part in the third Futuros Brillantes (Bright Futures) workshop on Monday, an initiative by Puerto Vallarta’s Subdirectorate of Entrepreneurship and Competitiveness with support from the Luis Munguía administration. The program focuses on teaching children financial literacy and the basics of entrepreneurship in a fun, accessible way.
This third edition featured special guest Jaqueline Ruiz, a successful businesswoman and writer, who shared her experience and encouraged the young participants to believe in their ideas and take action.
According to Lorena Beltrán, head of the subdirectorate, the workshop is designed to do more than just teach children about starting a business. It aims to give them the vision and tools to identify genuine business opportunities and strengthen their connection to Puerto Vallarta. Beltrán emphasized, “It’s not about starting a business out of necessity, but rather about learning to recognize their niche and knowing when and where to start a business.”
To make learning fun and engaging, the workshop included the Explora Puerto Vallarta game, an educational tool designed to deepen the children’s knowledge of their local environment and foster a strong sense of community pride. For mothers like Yadira Bracamontes, whose daughters have participated since the first edition, these workshops represent an opportunity to acquire skills beyond those taught in school. “It opens their minds and gives them tools they can apply in their daily lives,” she noted.
Enrollment has grown steadily since the program launched with 100 students two summers ago. Although attendance dipped slightly this week because of school holidays, organizers are already planning Emprendilandia for November – a pop-up fair where young creators will unveil and sell their own products to the public, promoting local consumption and eco-friendly ideas.
The municipality covers all costs, including materials and expert guidance, underscoring its pledge to build a Puerto Vallarta where children learn, innovate, and prosper close to home.
