Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – In a concerted effort to safeguard both human and animal health, Puerto Vallarta’s Eighth Health Region is conducting a comprehensive rabies vaccination campaign. As part of the nationwide initiative, local authorities are diligently working to inoculate thousands of dogs and cats against this deadly disease.
According to Jaime Álvarez Zayas, the region’s health director, significant progress has already been made. With 36% of the target population vaccinated, officials are optimistic about reaching their goal of administering 34,000 doses by December.
To ensure widespread accessibility, the anti-rabies vaccines are being administered at the Animal Control Center, Animal Assistance and the Municipal Shelter.
This rabies prevention initiative is part of a nationwide effort to protect both animals and humans from this deadly disease. The campaign provides free anti-rabies vaccines to all dogs and cats, underscoring the government’s commitment to safeguarding public health.
Rabies, a viral disease that can be fatal to humans, is transmitted through the saliva of infected animals. By vaccinating pets, authorities aim to prevent the spread of this illness and protect the community. The recent case of a woman hospitalized with rabies in Tepic, Nayarit, serves as a stark reminder of the disease’s severity.
Under the slogan “Rabies is a deadly disease, but it is preventable by vaccination,” the campaign is focused on reaching all dogs and cats within the six municipalities comprising the Eighth Health Region. With the unwavering commitment of local health officials and the community’s support, Puerto Vallarta is well on its way to achieving a rabies-free future.
In addition to the vaccination drive, Puerto Vallarta continues to conduct sterilization campaigns for pets, further contributing to their overall health and well-being.
