Residents Invited to Help Shape the Future of Vallarta’s Malecón

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico Mayor Luis Munguía’s administration has launched a new public initiative called Mi Malecón RENACE (“My Malecón Reborn”), inviting residents to take part in shaping the future of one of the city’s most beloved places. Through a citizen survey, locals can now share their ideas and help guide the upcoming renovation of the Malecón, the scenic seaside promenade that symbolizes the heart of the city.

This inclusive consultation began on July 17th and will continue through August 4th. It’s an essential part of a larger effort to enhance the downtown area and collectively develop the Puerto Vallarta Historic Center Management Plan, Vision 2030.

Residents can easily share their thoughts through an online form at puertovallarta.gob.mx. Additionally, survey modules are set up along the Malecón itself, and outreach teams will be visiting various neighborhoods and colonias to ensure everyone has a chance to participate.

The survey covers a range of important topics, including lighting, safety, green spaces, public art, commercial activity, and overall design. All collected information will be carefully considered to create a proposal that genuinely reflects the community’s wants and needs. The goal is to ensure that the revitalized Malecón reflects the ideas and needs of the people who call Vallarta home.

Municipal leaders emphasized the importance of public input during the project’s announcement. Ángel Marcial, Manager of Smart Government, said, “True transformations emerge when the voice of citizens is heard and incorporated into decision-making.” Social Participation Director Leonardo Gutiérrez agreed, stating that the renewed Malecón must be shaped by those who use and love it.

Councilwoman Laurel Carrillo added, “The Malecón is a living memory, but also a driving force for the present and future,” while Juan Pablo Martínez, Historic Center Manager, described it as “a living postcard of our identity.”

With “My Malecón Reborn,” the local government is demonstrating its dedication to a governing style that values citizen participation. This is a unique chance for the people of Vallarta to directly influence the direction of one of Puerto Vallarta’s most significant spaces and contribute to bringing new life to the very core of their city.
